It's been heavily rumored for at least two years now that Tom Cruise is finally on his way to the Marvel Cinematic Universe over a decade after he turned down Marvel Studios' offer to portray Tony Stark in the original Iron Man film. Now, if the latest reports from insiders are to be believed, the star of the Mission Impossible franchise is said to be playing a variant of Iron Man in the upcoming Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Insiders like BigScreenLeaks and Grace Randolph previously dismissed Cruise's involvement in the project following the initial screenings but that didn't stop fans from speculating about his potential casting especially after an alleged set photo surfaced last week which features the actor wearing a motion capture suit and sporting Tony's signature facial hair.

The photo in question has yet to be verified but knowing how Marvel Studios operates, expect them to dismiss its authenticity and even go out of their way to have it get taken down online. Check it out here.

Fans have been divided by the idea but personally speaking, I'd love to see Cruise's take on Iron Man and while I'm not saying that the alleged set photo is actually authentic, at this point, anything is seemingly possible in the Marvel Cinematic Universe thanks to the multiverse concept. I mean, we all saw Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield reprise their respective Spider-Man roles in Spider-Man: No Way Home. That alone should prove that nothing sounds crazy anymore and that Marvel is willing to go through lengths unimaginable just to pull something shocking.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness hits cinemas on May 6, 2022.
