  1. LAST TIME OUT

No time to dwell on last game.
The reset button has already been hit.
Saturday's second installment of the Battle of the Alberta saw the Flames suffer a 5-3 setback to their provincial rivals.
Matthew Tkachuk, Milan Lucic and Noah Hanifin found the back of the net, but it wasn't enough in the end in a back-and-forth affair. There's no questioning the effort and compete level throughout the game, but now it's just a matter of turning that into wins.
"Obviously we did some good things right, just didn't get the result we wanted," Chris Tanev said. "Obviously, need to clean up some details and mistakes at the wrong parts of games.
"I think we had some chances to score and we weren't able to capitalize on them and gave them some powerplays which sort of allowed them to build some momentum and allowed their top players to touch the puck and make plays.
"We need to start building our game in the right way and start stringing some wins together going into the break. Obviously we have games in hand but they don't mean anything unless you win them."
Tonight will see the Flames return to home ice for a quick stop, hosting a red-hot St. Louis Blues team for the first of two meetings this week, with the rubber match back in St. Louis Wednesday night.
With just three wins in their last 12 games, it's been a tough stretch as of late with the focus on getting back to making the opposition play their game.
"We're going through some stretches where we lost maybe some details in our game," Oliver Kylington said. "I think we've really been working hard on getting that back in our game and we're trending in a good way. "At the same time, you want to win games. I thought we did some good things last games, but at the same time, it's harder to sit here and not have the win. We have to still improve and get better in these small details of the game that can be a difference-maker for us."
"Stay with our process and get wins. That's the main thing, to get points and really be a hard team to play against and really do what we've been applying to our game and do that on a day-to-day basis and obviously winning games."
Things are about to ramp up for the Flames with Monday starting a stretch of four games in six days this week and a busy February on the horizon. It's a chance to get into a groove and not have long layoffs between games like the last few weeks.
"Just think the best part is knowing the schedule," Flames head coach Darryl Sutter said on the busy sked. "The players are programmed for that schedule in terms of their whole preparation. The way they have to get ready for games and knowing what the schedule is.
"That's their responsibility and accountability now. It's not an easy schedule, quite honest. It is what it is, but we've just got to bang away and keep plugging."

2. KNOW YOUR ENEMY

The Blues are less than 24 hours removed from their latest triumph, a 3-1 decision over the Vancouver Canucks Sunday evening for their third straight win.
It was the sixth vcictory in their last seven games, outscoring the opposition by an impressive 27-13 margin in that span.
Sunday's victory maybe wasn't their best, outshot 39-17, but they found a way to get the two points in the end.
"We weren't very good in the first period," Blues head coach Craig Berube said after the game. "We didn't manage the puck very well in the first, we didn't work and skate like we needed to. I think our game got better as we went on and the third period was our best period.
"Our goalie was really good and we scored a couple of timely goals, that was the difference in the hockey game. The special teams came through and our goalie came through."
The Blues special teams are impressive, as both their powerplay and penalty-kill rank in the top-five of the NHL, while they also average 3.51 goals per-game - good for fifth league wide.
Just as much as they can light the lamp, they can also keep the puck of their net allowing an average 2.61 goals against per game, thanks in large part to the recent run of Ville Husso who has only allowed six goals on 154 shots in his last five starts.
Husso got the start against Vancouver, his third straight, which means that the Flames could very well face Jordan Binnington who last saw game action on Jan. 15 against Toronto.

  1. FAST FACTS

A GUD 600: Erik Gudbranson will play career game No. 600 tonight as he takes the ice against the St. Louis Blues at the Scotiabank Saddledome. The former third-overall pick in 2010 has skated for seven different teams over his 599 games with 36 being with the Flames. His 599 is divided by 309 with the Florida Panthers, 139 with the Vancouver Canucks, 44 with the Anaheim Ducks, 36 with Ottawa, 36 with the Flames, 26 with the Pittsburgh Penguins and 9 with the Nashville Predators.
CHILD'S PLAY: Matthew Tkachuk extended his goal streak to four games on Saturday in Edmonton. Tkachuk is just one goal shy of tying his longest consecutive goal-streak of five-games which he accomplished last season to close out the campaign (May 9-19, 2021).
Tkachuk is also now tied for the team lead in goals (18) with Andrew Mangiapane and is riding a four-game point streak which sees him with four goals and four assists for eight points over the stretch.
DID YOU KNOW? Elias Lindholm is two points away from 400 points in his career. 210 (87G, 123A) of those points have come as a member of the Flames (in 243 games), and 188 as a member of the Carolina Hurricanes (in 374 games).

  1. PLAYERS TO WATCH

Flames - Noah Hanifin
Noah doubt about it.
The defender was all over the ice last game in Edmonton, contributing on every Flames goal with a tally and two assists for his sixth three-point performance of his career. With 16 points (4G, 12A) through 35 games, the 24-year-old eclipsed his point total of 15 set last season during the shortened NHL season.
Flames head coach Darryl Sutter had plenty of praise for Hanifin and his defence partner Rasmus Andersson, as the duo have been a strong pairing all season long.
"Noah and Ras are a lot better going back for pucks and using each other a bit better," he said. "You've got to run subtle interference for each other and talk to each other, and I think last few games, they've started to come back to that again and last game was another good step for them."
Blues - Vladimir Tarasenko
Two assists against the Canucks Sunday saw Tarasenko extend his point streak to nine games with 13 points (6G, 7A) in that span.
After appearing in just 34 games the last two years, the 30-year-old has been on a tear this season with 38 points in 37 tilts and leads the Blues in game-winning goals with four.
