MACOMB COUNTY (WWJ) -- The man charged with setting fire to his pregnant girlfriend saw his bond increase to $750,000 after he was arraigned on a new arrest warrant Monday morning.

Devonne Marsh, 41, appeared virtually for his arraignment from the Macomb County Jail where he is behind bars for violating terms of his probation from two unrelated narcotics cases -- the judge set his new bond at $750,000 and ordered him to wear a GPS tether under house arrest if he was released.

According to court records, Wanye County prosecutors asked for a $1 million bond, citing Marsh's long criminal records for convictions in Macomb and Oakland counties. Marsh's public defender called the increase request "prejudicial" due to intense media attention surrounding the case and fought to keep the 10%, or $5,000, option on the original $50,000 bond.

Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy said the original decision by a magistrate was "woefully inadequate" due to the severity of Marsh's crimes.

Marsh was release from the Wayne County Jail on Friday after a bail bonds company posted his original 10% option, but he was immediately turned over to the Macomb County Sheriff's Office the same day.

Marsh was held without bond in the Macomb County Jail until his arraignment on Monday.

Marsh is also facing multiple charges in Detroit for the Jan. 14 attack on his 26-year-old girlfriend who is carrying twins. She is still in the hospital in critical condition.

According to Macomb County Circuit Court records, Marsh was ordered in October 2019 to serve two years of probation for a pair of delivery of controlled substances cases after he plead guilty.

Five months later, a warrant was issued for his arrest after he allegedly absconded from probation.

The Detroit Police Department charged Marsh with kidnapping/abduction, attempted murder, aggravated/felonious assault and violation of the controlled substance act for the attack on his girlfriend.

Investigators said Marsh allegedly doused his girlfriend with lighter fluid and ignited her after the two had an argument at a house on Packard Street near Outer Drive.

Acting on a tip that a female was being held against her will and tortured, officers were able to find the woman laying on a bed in the basement with severe burns on 60% of her body.
