NARROW BAY, NY – When officers spotted a deer stuck in the icy water of Narrow Bay, they immediately sprung into action and performed an ice rescue.

Suffolk County Marine Bureau Officers responded to a deer stuck on the ice in Narrow Bay off Smith Point County Park at approximately 4:20 p.m. A young fawn had gotten herself stuck, half-submerged in the icy water roughly 60 feet offshore. With water temperatures around 40 degrees, Marine Bureau officers Robert Daniels, Robert King and Gary Quenzer had to act fast.

The officers quickly donned ice rescue gear and deployed an ice sled. They were able to reach the animal and the fawn has since been brought to a local animal rescue.
