Results: Trenton girls basketball's Bri Becker wins Athlete of the Week for Jan. 17 to Jan. 22

Through the duration of the winter sports season, the Gainesville Sun will run an "Athlete of the Week" poll, highlighting the top high school sports performances from the week prior. 

The poll will be released on Monday morning, and voting will run through Thursday morning at 10 a.m. with the the winner being announced on Friday. 

Readers may vote once per hour and are encouraged to share on their social media pages. 

Athlete of the Week for Jan. 17 through Jan. 22:

Bri Becker, Trenton girls' basketball

Becker, a senior at Trenton, helped the Tigers pick up back-to-back wins last week as Trenton beat Williston 45-15 on Friday and Bradford 48-29 on Saturday. 

Against Williston, Becker tallied 10 points and nine rebounds, while going on to score a team-leading 15 points against Bradford. Becker also pulled down a team-leading 16 rebounds against the Tornadoes, while also contributing seven steals and five assists.

Pierre Chery, Gainesville boys' soccer

Chery, a senior at Gainesville, led the way for the Hurricanes, who picked up back-to-back wins last week to improve to 11-0-2. 

Against Suwannee on Tuesday, Chery sent a pair of goals to the back of the net en route to a 6-1 win over the Bulldogs. Two days later in a 3-0 win over Santa Fe, Chery notched another goal, bringing his week's total to three and his season's total to 10. 

Haley Rosenbaum, Lafayette girls' basketball

Rosenbaum, a senior at Lafayette, tallied 48 points in a three game stretch for the Hornets, who went 2-1 last week with wins over Hamilton County and Union County and a one-point loss to Aucilla Christian. 

After recording just six points during Tuesday night's game against Aucilla Christian, Rosenbaum led Lafayette's scoring efforts the rest of the week with 22 points against Hamilton County and 20 points against Union County. 

Theo Stephens, Gainesville boys' basketball

Stephens, a junior at Gainesville, led the Hurricanes to two wins last week as the Hurricanes came from behind to beat the P.K. Yonge Blue Wave 48-45 on Wednesday and beat Ocala West Port 57-34 on Friday. 

And while Stephens lead the team in scoring in both of those games, his big nights weren't ignited until the second half.

Against P.K. Yonge, 13 of Stephens' 19 points were scored in the second half, while 14 of his 16 total points against West Port were scored in the second half. It's also of note that the junior went 11-for-12 from the free throw line in Wednesday night's dogfight.
