2 Minute Drill: 2 reasons former Boston Red Sox slugger David Ortiz may not get into Hall of Fame
this is sportscenter 52 minute drill. Hi everybody Tuesday. The Baseball Hall of Fame will announce the results of this year's vote. David Ortiz is on the ballot for the first time and I'm not sure he's getting in this year. Two reasons some will hold the fact he was a designated hitter against him. Others believe he used performance enhancing drugs. That large part is due to a 2009 New York Times report stating that Ortiz was one of 100 and four names a failed drug test when testing was done in 2000 and three. As a survey, the results were supposed to be anonymous. Ortiz later claimed he took a supplement that tripped the test in Major League Baseball agreed rob Manfred, who at the time was baseball's chief negotiator said quote that there is a very legitimate explanation that did not involve a banned substance. End quote. Alright so let's start with the D. H. Argument facts. Edgar Martinez, paul, Molitor and frank thomas all spent the majority of their careers has designated hitters and they're in the Hall of Fame and D. H. Is a real position in baseball. Second the link to steroids. Look I don't know who took what and when they took it. If you talk to enough people in and around the game, there already are a number of guys already in the Hall of Fame that use steroids or HGH when they played. Sorry that's just a fact and if we're talking steroids we have to talk amphetamines because they too are performance enhancers. There are way more than a handful of guys that use those and they're in bottom line for me. There was no doubt in my mind that Poppy is a Hall of Famer. Start with the numbers 541 home runs, 1000, 768 runs driven in and an O. P. S. Of 9 31. If that's not enough for you. It was also one of the best clutch hitters in the history of the game. He helped the Red Sox win three world series titles. Ask yourself this big spot World Series on the line. Who else would you want at the plate? And I've said finally I'll leave you with this. I've been to the Baseball Hall of Fame many times. It's a special place. But at the end of the day it's a museum, a museum where many flawed men have plaques. It's where people go to celebrate the greats of the game of baseball and to learn more about the game and those people that helped make the game so great. David Ortiz, 100% belongs. Thank you
