Alabama retires 3 specialty car tags; 4 redesigned or new ones set for Feb. 1

Rotary specialty tags are no longer available in Alabama.

Square and round dancing specialty tags are no longer available in Alabama.

Civitan International specialty tags are no longer available in Alabama.

Alabama is getting three new license plate designs and one entirely new car tag starting Feb. 1. It has also retired three plates which are no longer available.

The Alabama Department of Revenue said three redesigned license plates will be available. They are for the Alabama Poultry Foundation, Sickle Cell Awareness and Troy University. The redesigns haven’t been released yet.

Also available on Feb. 1 will be an Alabama Audubon “Protect Our Birds” tag. Most of the proceeds of the tag - $41.25 of its $50 cost – will go to Alabama Audubon to support bird conservation. The design of the tag has not been released.

While the state is picking up some redesigned or new tags, three are being retired.

Three tags – Rotary International, Civitan International and Square/Round Dancing - have been discontinued and are no longer available for purchase or renewal.

According to the ADOR, as of 2021, there were 155 Rotary tags, 32 Civitan tags and 192 Square and Round Dancing tags in the state.
