Stimulus Update: $5,000 payments could be waiting on this group of Americans

While it doesn’t appear that a fourth stimulus payment could be coming to Americans anytime soon, there is still one group of Americans who could cash in with the government in 2022.

According to a report on Nasdaq.com, “individuals who added a child to their family in 2021,” could be in line for a nice little chunk of change — $5,000.

You read that right.

And, here’s how it breaks down: there was a built-in stimulus payment of $1,400 per dependents from 2021, and an expanded Child Tax Credit worth $3,600 per child for children under the age of 6 and $3,000 for children ages 6-to-17.

According to the report, for anyone who had a child last year, that child “counts as a dependent for both purposes of the stimulus checks as well as purposes for the Child Tax Credit.” Per the report, the IRS “wouldn’t have known about this child yet when it was sending out these payments,’ in 2021.

That means that the folks who fit in the category will soon be able to claim that $5,000. And, per the report, anyone who added an older dependent “such as parents who adopted a child over the age of 6″ are also entitled to the $1,400 check as well as the expanded Child Tax Credit.” People who fit in that category would, however, receive $4,400 instead of $5,000, Nasdaq reported.

But back to the people who had children in 2021. If there was more than one child — say you had twins — you could be in for $10,000 because of the credit, according to the report.

And, all you have to do to get paid is to file your 2021 tax return.

So, for anyone who fits into those categories, they will want to get their returns in as soon as possible.
