Project Description
Seattle City Light has hired a contractor to replace 32 cross-bracing bars on the utility's radio communications tower at 1412 1st Avenue North. Crews will replace the cross-bracing bars and rivets on the tower to improve structural reliability.
Location
The tower is located in the Queen Anne area at 1412 1st Avenue North.
What's Happening Now?
Project Update: This work was completed in October 2021.
Community Benefits
- The improvements will improve the tower's structural reliability by replacing existing equipment with new parts.
- The work will improve City Light's communication systems.
Anticipated Impacts
- Crews will be using a crane and other truck equipment to access the tower structure. The work will take place between 25 to 95 feet on the tower.
- Crews will also use a small generator to remove existing rivets and tighten new nuts and bolts from the tower structure.
- Construction may impact traffic on 1st Avenue North, adjacent to the west side of the tower. Crews may need to close off the street to access the structure.
- Customers can expect some parking and sidewalk impacts near the construction work area. Crews will need to close access to the tennis court (south of the tower) during construction. The public will be able to access the other tennis court east of the tower.
- Later this summer, crews will re-paint the entire tower.
- Start Date: Early July 2021
- Duration: Two to three weeks
- Daily Work Hours: Monday - Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
