The Buffalo Bills lost to the Kansas City Chiefs 42-36 in overtime Sunday night. The game featured one of the most exciting finishes any football fan has ever seen. There were 25 points scored in the final two minutes of regulation. The Chiefs ultimately won the game in overtime after winning the coin toss and driving for a touchdown.

However, it should never have come to that. Bills quarterback Josh Allen threw what should have been the game-winning touchdown pass to Gabriel Davis with 13 seconds left. They led 36-33 and were set for a kickoff.

Yet, the Bills defense allowed Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes to complete two passes for 44 yards in 10 seconds. Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker kicked a 49-yard field goal, sending the game to overtime.

Bills coach Sean McDermott addressed the media after the end of the game.

McDermott shared his feelings about those 13 seconds, which Bills fans around the world are probably feeling as well. “We're all sick to our stomachs,” said McDermott. He went on to talk about this loss being a building block for the team. “What doesn't kill you should only make you stronger… it's going to take some time, but it should make us stronger,” McDermott said.

Buffalo could have done a number of things differently during those precious seconds. They could have done a squib kick to an up-back. That typically kills about five seconds. They could have not rushed four and dropped eight or nine into coverage. They didn't do any of those things.

Now, Bills players and fans alike will go into the offseason thinking “what if.”
