English Dub Review: Mieruko-chan “She Sees Them, Too”

Overview (Spoilers Below):
Yulia has a secret: she can see spirits all around her, and she’s pretty sure Miko can, too! Miko doesn’t seem all that interested in revealing her power, though.

Our Take:
We’re close to the halfway point of the series, and we already have some more juicy surprises in its overall plot. We’ve experienced Miko’s troubling conflicts with the spirits throughout the first few episodes. Now, we see that she’s not the only person who has this creepy ability.
The mystery girl, Yulia Niguredo, was offered the spotlight this time around after making brief appearances in the previous episodes, but only in the first half. It’s revealed that she could also see ghosts since she was young. However, she can only see the weaker ghosts, not the powerful ones.
Following the last two episodes of Miko’s creepy shenanigans, it was nice to see the show showcasing the ability from a different perspective, even if it is during the first half. What’s even more interesting was that it explored Yulia’s backstory and showcased her confrontation with Miko at school. It’s a suitable change of pace that represented more development for the supporting character, although her misinterpretation of Miko’s apology for choke holding her seemed a bit far-fetched.
After that, the second half played off more like a separate episode than a continuation of its plot. Again, we see Miko helping another person thanks to her supernatural gift. This time, it’s an older woman with poor memory. The ghost, who happens to be the woman’s husband, gives Miko the numbers for the woman to use for the safe containing a unique hair comb. As always, it’s another solid example of Miko’s ability being used for good. It’s too bad that Miko still sees it as a curse yet again after seeing the ghost being eaten by a larger one by the doughnut shop.
Overall, “She Sees Them, Too” offered an enjoyable new perspective on the supernatural ability, along with another good tiny scenario involving Miko. I can quickly admit that the latter seemed pointless in the episode’s main plot. Nevertheless, it helped heightened my interest by having two characters experiencing strange sightings instead of one.
