Another couple inches of snow expected Monday in Columbus area

Snow was already tapering off in the Greater Columbus region Sunday afternoon, but area residents can expect another couple of inches Monday.

Around one to two inches of new snow could fall Monday afternoon, according to the National Weather Service in Wilmington.

Temperatures are likely to reach a high of 34 degrees during the day Monday.

Snow could continue to fall on and off until about 4 a.m. Tuesday in parts of the Columbus area with accumulations adding up to less than half an inch overnight, reports the National Weather Service.

Snow will stop by early Tuesday morning, but temperatures will drop with an expected high of just 26 degrees and a low of 5 degrees, according to the forecast. No snow is expected the rest of the week.

The Columbus area was expecting around one to two inches of snow Sunday. The snowfall led to a Level 1 snow emergency in Delaware County, which was still in effect Monday morning.

Licking and Union counties were also under Level 1 snow emergencies Monday morning.

There are three levels of snow emergencies, according to the Ohio Committee for Severe Weather website. A Level 1 snow emergency means that roads are icy and there is some blowing or drifting snow into roadways. 

The National Weather Service cautioned drivers heading out Sunday afternoon as roadways could remain slick and blowing snow could lead to lower visibility in some areas.
