WATCH: Jeff Goodman believes Marcus Smart at point guard is NOT WORKING for the Boston Celtics

Brian Fluharty-USA TODAY Sports

Is the move for veteran Boston Celtics guard Marcus Smart to the point guard position a success, a failure or something in-between? Could one make the argument that it has not even happened most nights because veteran reserve guard Dennis Schroder has had to start many nights due to COVID-19 and injuries messing up the team’s roster?

At least one well-known Celtics analyst is not buying what he sees on the court with regards to Smart as the team’s primary floor general. CLNS Media’s Jeff Goodman believes you “can’t just give him the keys and say ‘You’re our point guard’. We’ve seen that this year that doesn’t work … You’ve got Marcus Smart as your point guard with two NBA All-Stars, and you can’t get out of the play-in game.”

Is the analyst correct in his assessment, or is this an unfair characterization?

Even if it is unfair, is Smart the point guard Boston needs to take the team to another level, or is he a familiar face holding the team back from what it could accomplish with a better floor general?

Watch the clip embedded above to hear what Goodman has to say to his co-hosts on the eponymous pod hosted by himself, Bob Ryan and Gary Tanguay.
