Ohio lost the first match of its weekend homestand against a tough Navy team on Saturday. Ohio was unable to pull out a victory in the back-and-forth match, despite taking an early lead. However, Navy came back to take the dual 21-14.
The 125-pound weight class match kicked off the match. Ohio’s Oscar Sanchez won by sudden victory after completing a takedown in the overtime period. It didn’t take long for Navy to even the score, though. It dominated in the 133-pound weight class as No. 19 Josh Koderhandt took down Gio DiSabato by decision 4-3.
Ohio grew a slight lead after victories in the 141-pound and 149-pound divisions. No. 29 Alec Hagan won by technical fall as he dominated his match against Jonathan Miranda. Mario Guillen joined the success after he defeated Tyler Hunt in a 6-4 decision to remain undefeated in duals.
The Midshipmen were not ready to settle yet. They earned a narrow decision in the 157-pound match and won the 165-pound match by fall to craft a 12-11 lead. No. 23 Sal Perrine came up big for the Bobcats in the 174-pound match with an 8-5 decision win. Perrine’s success gave Ohio its lead back, but the celebration didn’t last long. The Midshipmen had a burst of energy and won three decisions in a row to snag the dual win.
Ohio has one last chance to make a notch in the win column this weekend. It will face Davidson College on Sunday at 1 p.m. in The Convo for another nonconference match.
