THIS ENCHANTED” BY HATCHIE

Hatchie’s first album, “Keepsake,” was a promising debut within the dream pop genre. With her new album coming up on April 28, the first single, “This Enchanted,” is a beautiful pop song that perfectly complements late night drives through the city. Hatchie’s soaring vocals and bustling production form a euphoric anthem to start the year off right.

JEALOUSY” BY FKA TWIGS

FKA twigs always pushed boundaries in pop music yet on her new mixtape “CAPRISONGS,” she takes a fun and carefree approach, allowing herself to explore new genres and test her limits. On “Jealousy,” Twigs teams up with Nigerian singer and rapper, Rema, to create a bouncy Afrobeat track. Their chemistry allows the song to boast a catchy melody that is sure to have listeners singing along.

ALL MY GHOSTS” BY LIZZY MCALPINE

Lizzy McAlpine slowly grew in popularity over the past couple years. In order to hold over the wait for her debut album, McAlpine dropped a new single titled “All My Ghosts,” a dreamy escapade describing a simple night out with a romantic partner. The driving muted guitar progression and the gorgeous melodies throughout make this an exciting preview for what McAlpine will release soon.

OUT OF TIME” BY THE WEEKND

The Weeknd kickstarted 2022 with a bang upon the release of his new album “Dawn FM.” His hooks are as catchy as ever and the ‘80s synthwave veneer allows for an enchanting and danceable listen. This is especially apparent in “Out of Time,” a gorgeous ballad about second chances that expertly utilizes a sample from an ‘80s Japanese city pop song called “Midnight Pretenders” by Tomoko Aran

TITANIC” BY EARL SWEATSHIRT

Earl Sweatshirt, former member of the famed group Odd Future, followed up his critically acclaimed album, “Some Rap Songs,” with a new release titled “SICK!” Out of all the songs on the album, “Titanic” finds Sweatshirt at his most accessible yet confident. His killer flow over stories about crashed Dodge cars and hanging out with fellow collaborators like Na-Kel Smith and The Alchemist make for Sweatshirt’s breeziest listen yet.

HAPPY NEW YEAR” BY LET’S EAT GRANDMA

The duo’s first album surprised many with its left-field pop songwriting and their new album, as evidenced by “Happy New Year,” seems to be more slickly produced yet just as expansive of a sound. Synth pop is the genre and it helps to create a festival-ready hit about starting off the new year right with a best friend. Whether it be a romantic partner or a friend, this song is a perfect ode to the loved ones.

GOOGOO LAGOON” BY DR. GABBA

TikTok is a great platform for artists to jumpstart their careers and Dr. Gabba, a new electronic/dance artist, is throwing it back to ‘90s dnb music with their new single, “Googoo Lagoon.” Although the pandemic still continues into 2022, this track’s groovy beat and hard-hitting drums make the wait for clubs to open again an even more excruciating one.

SURROUND SOUND” BY JID

J. Cole’s music label, Dreamville, has been a great outlet for rising artists taking inspiration from classic R&B and hip-hop music, with JID being a top star among the label. While 2021 saw the release of two new singles from JID, “Surround Sound” might be the best and most exciting preview into his next album. The song finds him teaming up with 21 Savage and Baby Tate on a soulful beat where everyone can bring their A-game and show off their best flows.
