Drexel Takes Down Defending CAA Champions, Towson, on Senior Day

PHILADELPHIA - It was a big day for the Drexel men's swimming and diving program, as it defeated the defending CAA champions, Towson, on Saturday. Before its 153-147 win, Drexel celebrated seven seniors to open homecoming weekend.

Alessio Gianni put together a terrific performance, as he finished the day with three first-place finishes. He finished first in the 200 free with a time of 1:42.53, the 200 back with a time of 1:50.01, and the 200 IM with a time of 1:54.08.

Will Soleo earned the first of seven first-place finishes for Drexel with a time of 9:50.00 in the 1000 free. Later on, Scully touched the wall first in the 50 free with a time of 20.98. Scully also was a part of the 200 free relay team that placed second, and he finished third in the 100 free.

Raptis celebrated his senior day with two first-place finishes. He won the 200 fly with a time of 1:48.50, breaking the pool record. The senior then followed it up with a win in the 100 fly, touching the wall in 49.09. He also finished second in the 200 IM and the 200 medley relay.

On the boards, Drexel put on a clinic. In the one-meter event, Jack Patton led the way with a 285.67. Finishing just .07 points behind was Will Seely (285.60). In the 3M diving event, Drexel swept the podium with Seely finishing first with 276.45, Patton placing second (256.57) and Peter Soares finishing third with 213.75.

Next up for the Dragons will be the CAA championships in Christianburg, Va. The championship meet will take place from February 16-19.
