Push for medical marijuana continues in Nebraska

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The push for medical marijuana in the state continues.

This year, Senator Adam Morfeld of District 48, filled two petitions, based on the Supreme Court ruling on the single subject rule.

One for distribution and manufacturing, the other for actual use and recommendation.

Morfeld has been pushing for medical marijuana in Nebraska for years, but believes 2022 is going to be the year.

“We have clear guidance in the Supreme Court now, so we have crafted both petitions based on the guidance from the Supreme Court that we didn’t really have before and people are still pumped up and it’s become even more popular than ever,” Morfeld said.

In order for medical marijuana to be on the ballot this year, they need to collect about 85,000 signatures per petition by July.

But not everyone is for legalizing marijuana in Nebraska.

Governor Ricketts has opposed previous legislation in 2021 saying, “If you legalize marijuana, you’re going to kill your kids. That’s what the data shows around the country.”

Morfeld says Nebraska is one of two states in the country with complete prohibition on marijuana.
