LOS ANGELES (KNX) — Powerful Santa Ana winds have toppled trees and downed power lines across Southern California overnight Friday and Saturday. Homes, vehicles, and other infrastructure have been reported damaged as a result.

A high wind warning took effect Friday afternoon in the Santa Monica Mountains, the Santa Clarita and San Fernando valleys, and other L.A. County mountain regions. The warning will remain in place through at least Saturday afternoon.

Residents of La Verne reported a high number of downed trees across the community, with Old Town La Verne being especially hard hit Saturday morning.

Power outages due to downed lines were reported in Arcadia, Sierra Madre, Pasadena, and Altadena.

According to the National Weather Service, mountain areas of L.A. County could experience wind speeds of up to 45 miles per hour, and gusts of 80 miles per hour in the western part of the San Gabriels.

High winds may blow around unsecured objects, potentially impacting driving. Areas identified by the NWS for caution this weekend included the 5 and 14 freeways.
