Bengals fans if you're nervous this morning, imagine if your kid was on the team, jimmy burrow QB one's dad is in Nashville to catch the game this weekend and WLWT News Five anchor Mike Dardis sat down for a chat. Jimmy burrow actually took early retirement so he could go to every one of his sons L. S. U. Games his senior season. That's the kind of dad he is last night I spoke one on one with the father of the young quarterback who has turned this franchise around. We wanted him to get drafted by Cincinnati. There was talk that, you know, joe didn't want to go there, but that's where he didn't want to go because it was in Ohio is 2.5 hours from from his home and and so it all added up to to get drafted by the Bengals and here we are. You turn on the national shows ESPN all these other sports channels, the analysis, everybody in the country seems to be talking about your son giving him a new nickname and that sort of thing. How does that feel as a father? Do you have to pinch yourself? Yeah, I mean it's it's uh it's overwhelming at times and uh, you know, he'd he'd be the first to tell you that it's not just him, it's a it's a team and and the the coaches and his teammates and uh of course he doesn't watch any of that. I watch uh quite a bit of it, but like you said, there's there's so much out there right now and you know, that's the NFL when you win a playoff game and you're in the playoffs and you're a couple of games away from the Super Bowl. You know, the whole height of of media coverage is raised and people are excited. Jimmy burrow is joe's biggest fan and he knows him better than anyone else. So maybe he can explain why his son is so cool as the games get hotter and hotter. He he likes to say that he's like that because he's prepared. And in his mind, he's everywhere. He's been high school L. S. U. And now the Bengals uh his preparation is has always been the same and he's had great coach coaches to to prepare him and he says the calmness uh comes from from him putting in the work and being prepared for what he's going to see tomorrow. So many things to celebrate so far in his young Bengals career. What's your favorite moment thus far? The first win over the Vikings because uh you know, it was a tough road after he got injured last year. And he said during, during camp that they were gonna be good. And that kind of proved that all his hard work to get back to where he could be a starting quarterback. The NFL had paid off. So jimmy is going to be at the game later today with a whole bunch of family. I lost count after he mentioned about a dozen names connected to the borough family, so it should be good. 3 30 kickoff and just a reminder while the network broadcast is doing all that in studio analysis, we're going right to the postgame podium. One of them is quarterback Joe Burrow's dad, who is down in Nashville for the game.
