CORONA, Calif. (KNX) — A forecast of high Santa Ana winds for the Inland Empire has forced a cancelation of this weekend’s closure of the westbound 91 Freeway in the Corona area.
The closure was meant to accommodate a $270 million construction project that began in spring of last year. A new ramp, connecting toll lanes on both freeways to reduce congestion, will open in 2023.
Construction work was slated to continue on the westbound lane of the freeway, from McKinley to Main streets. Officials cited the need to maintain worker safety amid high winds in announcing the cancelation.
Officials had not yet announced Friday when the closure would be rescheduled. John Standiford, the Riverside County Transportation Commission’s deputy executive director told The Riverside Press-Enterprise the agency aimed to do so “as soon as we can.”
