Supplemental Security Income: Checks worth $687 automatically available to help families with kids – how to get cash

MILLIONS of parents with kids can automatically get monthly Supplemental Security Income payments worth $687 on average.

Around five million people received SSI checks last month and the scheme is designed to help seniors as well as disabled adults and children.

Checks are usually sent out on the first of every month, and those who receive both social security and SSI receive their payment on the third.

Benefits, worth $687 on average, are available to disabled kids in low-income households so parents can cover their medical costs.

Some states may send extra benefits meaning some families could get more to support their disabled kids. This depends on state law, however.

California, Hawaii, and Vermont are among the states that have the Social Security Administration send the benefits the state provides.

This means that beneficiaries are likely to receive both state and federal payments as a single check.

Claimants got two SSI payments in December, reflecting the new cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) because of the holiday schedule.

Americans that receive SSI may not get the same amount.

Recipients could get the benefit if they have resources that are valued at less than $2,000.

Resources can include cash, bank accounts, stocks, cars, and life insurance.

Food stamps and fuel assistance do not count towards Americans’ SSI income and monthly payments will not be reduced if anyone is receiving those benefits.

Applications can be made online but those over 65 are required to call the number (800) 772-1213 if they want to book an appointment to file their application.

Americans who think they’re eligible for SSI but suffer from hearing problems can call the SSA (800) 325-0778.

When applications are submitted, officials will carefully review each document to see if claimants are eligible for SSI benefits, and the decision will be mailed.
