LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – On Friday Governor Pete Ricketts signed a proclamation declaring the anniversary of Roe v. Wade, January 22, as a Statewide Day of Prayer.

“Nebraska is a pro-life state,” the Governor’s proclamation says. “Nebraska state law states that it is ‘the will of the people of the State of Nebraska and the members of the Legislature to provide protection for the life of the unborn child whenever possible.’”

When the Supreme Court decision was made in Roe v. Wade it overturned Nebraska’s pro-life legislation and amended the U.S. Constitution to legalize abortion.

Roe V. Wade has been disputed over the years, and later this year the U.S. Supreme Court is set to hear Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, a case regarding abortion regulation in Mississippi. This case will revisit the constitutionality of the Roe v. Wade ruling.

The proclamation encourages citizens to aid expecting mothers and fathers, as well as pray for an end to abortion.
