Owners and the MLB Players Association will meet for a second bargaining session Monday, ESPN’s Jeff Passan reported. The union will make a counteroffer, according to Passan.
The two sides met for the first time Jan. 13 but no progress was made toward agreeing on a new Collective Bargaining Agreement. The owners’ proposal reportedly displeased the players.
The lockout began at 11:59 p.m. on Dec. 1. MLB has been at a standstill ever since with no 40-man roster transactions allowed. Minor league signings/transactions are allowed.
Spring training, for now at least, is scheduled for mid-February. The Red Sox are scheduled to open their Grapefruit League schedule Feb. 26 against the Braves. Opening Day is scheduled March 31 between the Red Sox and Rays at Fenway.
