The tantalising teaser for Law & Order season 21 confirms the person who put the 'pro' in procedural is back for the series revival.

In October last year, it was announced the show would return after being off the air since 2010 — joining up with Law & Order: SVU and Law & Order: Organised Crime — as part of NBC's new Thursday night line-up.

The new episodes will constitute Law & Order's 21st season and will pick up where the show left off when it was cancelled over a decade ago.

At the time, it had not been confirmed which original cast members would be returning for the revival... until now.

As per the first look, Sam Watertson will return as Jack McCoy, reprising the iconic role he played for 16 seasons.

In the palpitating teaser, we see Jack back in full McCoy mode as he declares: "It's okay to play the hero... as long as you win. The title cards then reveal the premiere date of the legendary show as February 24.

The clip also shows glimpses of a few fresh faces, including: Odelya Halevi as assistant DA Samantha Maroun, Jeffrey Donovan as Detective Frank Cosgrove and Hugh Dancy as assistant DA Nathan Price.

Speaking to Variety last year about what to expect from the revival, show boss Dick Wolf said: "This will be season 21, so it's the same Law & Order everyone knows from the first 20 years," before explaining, "So there's really nothing to fix, we just want to continue telling great stories. Casting as always will be three cops and three DAs."

Wolf added: "We always approach storytelling the same way: Good writing, acting and production values, and give the viewers what they want. That's been our mantra from day one."

Law & Order season 21 will premiere on February 24 on NBC.
Law & Order: SVU airs Thursdays on NBC in the US. The show airs on Sky Witness in the UK, with select episodes available on NOW.
