EL SEGUNDO, Calif. — Academy Award winner Lin-Manuel Miranda's new Netflix film "Tick, Tick... Boom!" follows "Rent" creator Jonathan Larson (played by Andrew Garfield) as he composes music early in his career.

On "The LA Times Envelope Roundtable" on Spectrum News 1, Miranda opens up to host Mark Olsen about capturing the late playwright's career and environment.

"The thesis of this was always to honor Jonathan's life," said Miranda. "So to me, that apartment is as specific a recreation of his actual apartment as we could get. We shot on location, in the places where he actually lived and performed and created his art."

The roundtable also features directors Kenneth Branagh, Reinaldo Marcus Green, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Sian Heder and Adam McKay. Click the arrow above to see Miranda discuss his film.
