Prices are going up with a tight labor market and shortage of housing units in the U.S., said Dr. Harry Davis at the 2022 High Country Economic Kickoff, Jan. 20.

BOONE — One outlined his role as a “mirror,” the other looked into his “crystal ball.”

Together, the two keynote speakers for the annual High Country Economic Kickoff Breakfast offered members of the co-host Boone and Blowing Rock chambers of commerce a scintillating view of the current business environment. The event was held at the Grandview Ballroom of the North End Zone Facility on the campus of Appalachian State University, Jan. 20.

Dr. Harry Davis told the audience at the 2022 High Country Economic Kickoff Breakfast, Jan. 20, that the federal legislation to 'Build Back Better' should emphasize infrastructure spending and vocational education. 'We need more plumbers, electricians, and builders to fill more than 10 million unfilled jobs,' he told the almost 300 attending both in-person and virtually.
