Stars (19-16-2, 40 points) vs. Red Wings (18-17-5, 41 points)

There was some debate on just how ready Jason Robertson was to play Thursday night.
Stars forward Tyler Seguin laughed and said he felt Robertson was playing no matter what, while coach Rick Bowness maintained Robertson's return from a lower-body injury was definitely a "game-time decision." Either way, it was a good thing he was there.
Robertson had two goals and an assist and helped fuel a huge 5-4 win at Buffalo.
"He wasn't even certain he was going to play, but he felt better so he decided to play," Bowness said. "It's fortunate for all of us, but it shows his importance to the offensive side of our team."
Robertson has been a consistent warrior in his first two NHL seasons. He was runner-up for rookie of the year last season, and despite missing six games with a shoulder injury to start this season and two more with a recent lower-body injury, he ranks 12th in the league in points per 60 minutes at 3.44.
"For a guy that's really in his second year in the league, he has tremendous poise and confidence with the puck," said Bowness.
While his goalscoring has been huge, Robertson also made a great pass that led to a goal for Roope Hintz. His hockey sense has been a big part of his ability to adapt at the NHL level.
"It's funny because the last minute of the first period or whatever, I ring one off the bar, but then I watched the replay and Roope was wide-open back door, so I told him, 'I'm going to get you next time,'" Robertson said. "The puck came to me, I saw Roope driving to the net, and I just made that pass. He got a good stick on it and a good tip."
Now, he hopes to stay in a groove that has him scoring in nine of his past 10 games - seven goals and eight assists for 15 points.

What to watch

Luke Glendening was born in Grand Rapids, attended the University of Michigan and played nine seasons in the Detroit Red Wings organization, so going back home and playing against his old team tonight is going to be a big deal.
Glendening played the Red Wings in Dallas on Nov. 16 but going back and skating in front of friends and family will have a different feel.
"I think I would be lying to say it's just another game," Glendening said Friday morning. "To be back at the rink and back in the city, that's always going to be special to me. It means a lot to me, the city, the people, the fans. I'm excited for it."

'This city means a lot to me'

Glendening is averaging 13:49 in ice time and has five goals among eight points in 37 games. He's been a staple on the team's checking line and a veteran leader, as well.
"He's a great character guy, a great teammate, versatile, he takes a lot of faceoffs and is a very good penalty killer," Stars coach Rick Bowness said. "He's one of those guys from a coaching perspective who is low maintenance. He's a true pro. He gives you everything he can every night."
Glendening left as a free agent in the summer and said he's been happy finding a home in Dallas.
"I have the utmost respect for the organization and the people here [in Detroit], but it's been a good change for me," he said.

Lineup update

Bowness said they'll start goalie Braden Holtby on back-to-back nights after winning in Buffalo. Holtby in his career against Detroit is 12-2-2 with a 2.09 goals-against average and .925 save percentage.
"He hasn't played much lately, he's rested, he's fresh," Bowness said. "He didn't get a lot of work last night, so he's feeling good about his game, and we'll put him back in."

Bowness on Glendening's impact

Alexander Radulov has been removed from COVID protocol and is a game-time decision for tonight.
Here is the expected lineup:
Robertson-Hintz-Seguin
Benn-Seguin-Gurianov
Raffl-Peterson-Glendening
Radulov-Faksa-Kiviranta
Suter-Heiskanen
Lindell-Klingberg
Hanley-Hakanpaa
Holtby
Oettinger
