Covid-19 Vaccines Required for Essential Workers Crossing U.S. Border

Beginning tomorrow, the United States will require essential travelers crossing into the country via land ports of entry and ferry terminals to be fully vaccinated against the Coronavirus and provide proof of vaccination. The Biden administration opened it’s borders with Canada and Mexico in November for nonessential travelers who are fully vaccinated and implemented rules similar to the ones used for international air passengers. Last fall, the Department of Homeland Security also announced the requirements would be extended to essential travelers who had been allowed to cross into the US over the course of the pandemic in early January. Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas said ‘these updated travel requirements reflect the Biden-Harris Administration’s commitment to protecting public health while safely facilitating the cross-border trade and travel that is critical to our economy.’ American citizens and permanent residents will not be required to show proof of vaccination and Covid-19 tests are not required.
