BART is making some changes to welcome back riders as it anticipates more people returning to their offices in the upcoming months.
Four of the agency's San Francisco stations – Powell Street, Montgomery Street, Embarcadero and Civic Center – are getting upgrades to all lights and escalators, and a bathroom that's been closed for 20 years is getting a grand reopening.
"One major improvement is we have been replacing the platform lights at all four downtown San Francisco locations," said BART Spokesperson Alicia Trost. "A well-lit platform is so important for safety and for when you're waiting for a train." The agency is also updating escalators and the bathroom at Powell Street station is reopening with new safety mechanisms.
"You can feel safe bringing your family to Powell Street," she told KCBS Radio. "You know the platform is going to be well-lit. There's going to be a safe and clean bathroom that has an attendant added."
The bathroom will be open sometime in February.
A ribbon, or toilet paper cutting, will likely be done to celebrate the occasion.
