Think Tiger Woods’ PGA was a struggle? Justin Thomas says that misses the point
A review of Justin Thomas’ winner’s press conference on Sunday at the PGA Championship tells us plenty about the newest two-time major champ. About his mindset going into Sunday’s final round. About a key conversation he had with caddie Bones Mackay. About how much this win meant after a half-decade spent chasing his second major. And while I covered Thomas’ week here, I was left thinking about Thomas’ reaction to the final question of the session, which was about his good friend Tiger Woods.

Allowed? — Dave Silkwood, Troutdale, Ore.

‘They knew it was all of us’: Pro talks sneaking into Augusta National, putting on 12th green
Charles Howell III has played in 10 Masters at Augusta National during his career, but he also apparently spent some time on the exclusive course long before he turned pro. In the show they discussed Tiger Woods, what led Howell to turning pro and, of course, what it was like growing up in Augusta, Ga., with the world’s most famous course in your backyard.

Patrick Reed says this year’s been frustrating. He thinks he knows why.
He was asked if his play’s been frustrating. He was asked if he felt he got away from the player he is. These aren’t typical questions of Patrick Reed. And this hasn’t been a typical year for him. On Friday, he was again at the top of a leaderboard — in fourth, one shot back of three players, after two rounds at the Charles Schwab Challenge — but it had been a while.

Struggle with consistent wedge contact? Consider this gear adjustment
Let’s kick this piece off with a question: What’s the most important aspect when constructing a wedge? Some would say it’s matching the grind to a golfer’s typical delivery and course conditions. Others might contend that dialing in the loft gaps can lead to short game success. A softer shaft flex, when compared to the irons, is another common play.

Stop us if you’ve heard this one before. “I feel like if it just nicks a leaf or something, it’s short. I think it’s got a chance to get right through that. I think it’s the right height for this club. I think a good shot on either one — just a really good shot on this one is way better than really good on the other, and I think an average shot on both is in the same spot. And then it could be really bad either way, too.”
