The New York Giants have themselves a new general manager. It’s former Buffalo Bills assistant GM Joe Schoen. The news was announced Friday as Schoen takes over for Dave Gettleman, who retired last week.
So far, the Giants’ news is being well-received around the NFL ...
FOX Sports’ Jay Glazer: “Giants fans be happy, actually elated, for the hiring of Joe Schoen. First step in changing culture there.”
The Athletic’s Dan Duggan: “Seemed like the favorite all along. The start of a new era for the Giants.”
SNY’s Ralph Vacchiano: “New Giants GM Joe Schoen was the favorite from the start, but after the way he helped turn around the Buffalo Bills, he could be the right man to clean up the Giants’ mess.”
CBS Sports’ Adam Schein: “Best day the Giants have had in 10 years! Congrats!”
As for who Schoen beat out for the job ...
New York Post’s Ian O’Connor: “Giants source said Joe Schoen vs. Adam Peters “was almost a dead heat” before final decision was made. So Schoen by a nose... and now it’s time for another equally important horse race.”
Vacchiano: “Joe Schoen was the favorite heading into this search for a new GM and he obviously said all the right things in his interviews. I’ve heard 49ers assistant GM Adam Peters, who got his second interview yesterday, made the Giants think about it. He made a strong impression.”
And who could be the new head coach ...
SI’s Albert Breer: “Joe Schoen’s arrival as the Giants new GM will lead into the team’s coaching search. And obviously, Bills coordinators Brian Daboll and Leslie Frazier will be connected to Schoen, and both are very viable candidates.”
ESPN’s Jordan Raanan: “(Names) I’ve heard as potential head coaches for Joe Schoen: Brian Daboll, Leslie Frazier, Brian Flores and Dan Quinn.”
