Seven state representatives sponsor state constitutional amendment

The Civil War may have ended more than 150 years ago, but a group of Republican lawmakers in Concord want the Granite State to secede from the union.Seven state representatives have sponsored a state constitutional amendment to declare New Hampshire independence and proceed as a sovereign nation.Rep. Michael Sylvia, R-Belmont and his co-sponsors are serious about disbanding the union.They said they think it would work out better for the Granite State. “Some believe that the question of independence has been settled. If so, then our state's sovereignty has been stolen,” Sylvia said.House Democratic Leader Renny Cushing slammed the bill as "the most unpatriotic piece of legislation" he has ever seen come through the New Hampshire House.
