As we approach the end of the first month of this year, OnePlus is treating its OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro users with a new security update.

Both units bagged the latest Android 12 OxygenOS 12 update, back in December 2021. However, the update was pulled because of several issues reported by users.

Later, at the very end of December, OnePlus pushed a new OxygenOS 12 update for the OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro that packed multiple optimizations and bug fixes.

Now, the company is back with another update, this time around with the January 2022 security patch. Along with the latest patch, this update also brings a bunch of bug fixes as well.

Talking about the update, it brings improvements in system performance, fixes charging animation issues in the display, adds a fix for notification issues in the display, and also fixes the scrolling lag problem.

For apps, the new update has optimized the vibration for certain gaming scenarios. It also touches upon some camera issues where it crashed when opened.

OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro January 2022 update weighs in around 4.40GB in size

Another issue that the OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro users were facing was the inability of the camera to record videos occasionally. Thankfully, the latest update fixes this issue as well.

With all these bug fixes, system improvements, and January 2022 security updates, this update is quite heavy in size. Notably, it weighs around 4.40 GB in size.

So, we would advise you to download the update over a stable mobile data or Wi-Fi internet connection. As far as the firmware version of the January 2022 security update for the OnePlus 9 and OnePlus 9 Pro is concerned, it arrives with version C.44.

XDA notes that the previous update was received only by users of the OnePlus 9 series who had installed the buggy Android 12 update.

However, this latest update is rolling out widely for every OnePlus 9 series user. Moreover, it is available for users running OxygenOS 11 as well.

As usual, the update is pushed via OTA in batches. So, it will take some time before hitting every OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro unit. If you haven’t received the update notification on your device, then you can check for it manually as well.

To do so, simply navigate to Settings > System > System updates. Your phone will check its servers for a new update. If it detects one, you can tap on Download and install to update your phone.
