Superintendent Chris Reykdal of The Washington Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction has selected Clare (Vivi) Kondrat and Connor Johnson, seniors at Pope John Paul II High School, as Washington State finalists for the 2022 U.S. Presidential Scholars Program in the Overall Excellence Category.

It is a great accomplishment in that each high school in the state can nominate two students, one male and one female. From all eligible candidates, Superintendent Reykdal chose 10 male and 10 female students as state finalists to advance to the national level.  Both JPII high school students were selected to represent the state.

Therese Allin, Principal/Head of School expressed the school’s excitement saying “We are so proud of both Vivi and Connor. They are outstanding students and exceptional leaders who beautifully represent our community and Washington State.”

Nominees were evaluated based on academic scholarship, commitment to learning, engagement in activities and service, leadership, resiliency in overcoming challenges and potential for a productive future. Final selections for the 2022 Scholars will be announced the first full week of May.
