Woman Kills Husband and Takes Severed Head to Police Station

A woman in India killed her husband before decapitating and taking his head to the local police station, according to law enforcement in the country.

The alleged incident took place in the city of Renigunta, after the accused, Vasundhara, and her husband Ravi Chandran had an argument at their home.

Vasundhara placed the severed head in a bag and took it to a police station in Andhra Pradesh's Chittoor, according to a Munsif Daily report.

Police said they rushed to the home and brought the accused with them in hopes of gathering clues. The body they discovered at the scene has since been taken to SV Medical College for an autopsy.

Authorities have said their preliminary investigation found Chandran and Vasundhara would regularly have fights.

They believe the pair had an argument that resulted in Vasundhara stabbing her husband.

The couple also have a 20-year old son. Police have said Chandran's relatives have been informed about the incident.

Newsweek has contacted the Chittoor Police Department for comment.

Newsweek has reported on similar incidents in India where family quarrels have ended in a beheading. In December 2021, an 18-year-old male and his mother were arrested after allegedly beheading a 19-year-old woman.

The beheading happened in the Aurangabad district of Maharashtra in India on December 5, 2021.

The victim was Kirti Thore, the older sister and daughter of the arrested. Authorities believed the killing was in response to Thore marrying someone her family did not approve of.

Police also said they believed the son and mother carried the woman's severed head to the front of the house and took a selfie with it.

Thore lived with her husband at their marital home and he is believed to have been asleep during the attack. Thore was also believed to have been pregnant at the time of the killing.

Assistant Police Commissioner Kailash Prajapati explained the details of the attack.

"The mother had visited the daughter a week ago," he told local media.

"On December 5, she came back with her son. The victim's house is in the field. She was working in the field with her mother-in-law.

"Seeing mother and brother, she left her work in the field and rushed to greet them. She gave water to both of them and went to the kitchen to make tea.

"This is when her brother came from behind and beheaded her."

He continued: "Her husband, who was will, was lying in the house. He woke up hearing the sound of falling utensils and rushed to the kitchen.

"The woman's brother tried to kill him too but he escaped. Later, the brother came out of the house with her head in his hand. He then came to the police station and surrendered."
