Jason Momoa and Lisa Bonet were once an iconic Hollywood couple, but since news broke earlier this month that the pair had split after 16 years together, fans were left wondering what went wrong. The pair, who met through a mutual friend back in 2004, shared a beautiful love story after revealing “we have been together from the day that we met,” but now sources close to the couple are sharing what really led to the end of their relationship.
Although rumors have begun to swirl that the pair’s relationship became strained after Momoa supported Aquaman co-star Amber Heard even after the 35-year-old actress bashed his step-daughter, Zoë Kravitz, the reality is far less sensational. “Jason is very focused on his career and wants to work. He has found success and it’s driving him and is very fulfilling,” a source close to the former couple told E! News.
"Lisa wants to be in LA and is not interested in going on location for long periods of time with him," the source added, noting that the 54-year-old "was moving in a different direction and it did not fit together with her lifestyle. They drifted apart and wanted different things."
Momoa and Bonet share two children together, Lola Iolani Momoa and Nakoa-Wolf Manakauapo Namakaeha Momoa, and the 42-year-old actor also has a good relationship with Kravitz, who was born from Bonet’s first marriage to singer Lenny Kravitz. Zoë is reportedly upset at the ending of the relationship, but the source noted, “She also really likes Jason and has a good relationship with him so it's all very sad that this chapter is closing. She loves them both but understands that it was time for them to move on."
The former couple shared a joint statement on social media earlier this month announcing the end of their union. The post revealed, “We have all felt the squeeze and changes of these transformational times… A revolution is unfolding and our family is no exception… feeling and growing from the seismic shifts occurring.” The since-deleted post continued, “And so we share our Family news that we are parting ways in marriage.”
Thankfully, another source has shared that the split is amicable, telling PEOPLE, "It's not going to be some scandalous divorce where they trash talk each other. They are both very spiritual and believe in a higher power."
