'The Witcher' Showrunner Promises Season Three Will Be "Perfect"

'The Witcher' Showrunner Promises Season Three Will Be "Perfect"

This comes after a rather Marmite-y second season.

Lauren Hissrich, showrunner of The Witcher, has assured us that the third season is going to be "perfect" for fans of the show, games and books and she is proud of the "amazing" writing from the team.

Spoilers for the second season of The Witcher are within this article, so beware!

The second season was a divisive one with significant deviations from the original storyline, though there wasn't timey-wimey-wibbly-wobbliness to deal with. In spite of some fans' protestations, author Andrzej Sapkowski has said that he hasn't got any qualms with the differences and even said that his books "are not the Bible" so the adaptations are well within their rights to spin certain parts into new twists in the tale that surprise both familiar and fresh fans.

Speaking to TechRadar in an interview in December, Hissrich relayed the positive experience of being in the writer's room with the team, sculpting what season three has in store for our favourite characters. “I feel like seasons one and two have been laying the playing field for everything huge that’s about to happen," she said. "But the creative process is now really just starting. We have the scripts, and now we’ll bring directors on, the actors back in, and really start delving in deeper and reflecting back and making sure that it’s the perfect season.”

"I’m really thrilled with how the season is shaping up because it’s based on my favourite book in the saga, which is The Time of Contempt," added Hissrich. Given the contrast between the reception of the first and the second season, the use of the word "perfect" might have been jumping the gun a little bit.

On the other hand, Joey Batey has said that fans should temper their expectations with whenabouts the third season is imagined to premiere on the streaming service. "I have not seen the scripts, and lord knows when we’re going to be filming," admitted the actor who plays Jaskier in the show in a chat with Radio Times last month. "Because, as you can probably tell over the last couple of days alone, the world is changing pretty quickly. We’re hopefully shooting in the new year.”
