Canes score 5 first period goals in 7-1 hammering of the Bruins

A first period that sees Carolina score five goals as they start to blow a team away is always going to be considered a good period. While the Carolina Hurricanes were destroying the Boston Bruins, the team started to rebuild the faith within itself from outsiders to deem this a cup contender. Other news will arise about this later, but for now, the Canes beat the Bruins handily 7-1 so let’s enjoy it.
Multiple Canes had multi-point nights, so we’re gonna talk about a few of them. The one I’m gonna start with is the 1 goal, 2 assist night that came on for Carolina’s star defenseman Jaccob Slavin. What a performance from the Colorado native as he dominated the Bruins in all three zones and could have the case made he was the big reason Carolina blew the Bruins away in this one.
Jesperi Kotkaniemi had two goals in this first period, moved onto nine for the season, and provided me with every single bit of bait I will ever need to annoy the population of Montreal. Enough about me, Kotkaniemi has been very impressive as a member of the Carolina Hurricanes. His depth scoring has provided a lot, and he’s getting his goals at even strength.
There were so many great Canes performances in this game, but the streak was snapped for the PK at 35 as Boston’s only goal was on the powerplay because of course it was. So, there’s no longer the historic run of the penalty kill to look forward to as the Bruins saw to ending that in cold blood. Either way, the Canes PK gave up a goal. That’s a rare sight with the PK holding at a 90.1% kill rate.
This was a very enjoyable game for all Canes fans and they play the Rangers next in a game that should be absolutely incredible watching for the fans.
