After picking up a weekend sweep over the Buffalo Sabres, the Detroit Red Wings return to the ice after a few days off, looking to continue their winning ways as they get set to host the Dallas Stars on Friday night.
After shutting out the Sabres at home on Saturday night, the Red Wings had a bit of a slow start in their MLK Day afternoon meeting in Buffalo. The Wings fell behind 2-0 by the early stages of the second period, but a Vladislav Namestnikov shorthanded kickstarted the rally. After Dylan Larkin tied the game in the latter-half of regulation, the Red Wings’ captain scored his 18th goal of the season, in overtime, to give Detroit the 3-2 victory.

Larkin is now tied with Tyler Bertuzzi for the team lead in goals, while extending his lead in team scoring, with 36 points. Detroit is now five points back of the fourth-placed Boston Bruins in the Atlantic Division.
In the middle of the uber-competitive Central Division, the Dallas Stars have not found the amount of scoring to help suffice the lack of goaltending they have seen in order to be a playoff contender in the division. Heading into Friday night’s clash, the Stars are sixth in the Central with an 18-15-2 record, and are nine points back of the Minnesota Wild, who are fourth in the division.
