NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — Police launched an investigation after a livery cab driver was robbed and stabbed by passengers Thursday night in the Bronx following a dispute over payment costs, authorities said.
According to police, the 34-year-old livery cab driver picked up two males and one female passenger at approximately 9:30 p.m., near the corner of East Fordham Road and Walton Avenue, in Fordham Heights.
A verbal dispute broke out between the passengers and the driver over the price of the trip, officials said.
The argument then escalated when at least one passenger allegedly punched the driver. At least one of the suspects stole cash from the driver, the NYPD said.
One of the passengers then stabbed the driver twice in the chest, authorities said.
The victim collapsed and the suspects fled in an unknown direction.
EMS transported the driver to a nearby hospital for treatment. His condition was unclear but he is expected to survive the attack.
One of the suspects was described as a woman with red hair and wearing green pants PIX11 reports. No other suspect descriptions were provided.
An investigation remains ongoing.
