While the Bruins pulled out a gritty 4-3 win over the Capitals on Thursday, the night didn’t end on a good note for Brad Marchand, who left the game with an upper-body injury after being hit from behind by Washington’s Garnet Hathaway.
It started on a much more positive note, though. After pregame warmups, Marchand surprised a young fan in a pretty unique way.
While we’ve seen plenty of players pose for photos with fans, Marchand decided to take a fan’s phone and record a surprise video message.
The fan -- reportedly Aiden Smith -- was leaning over the tunnel behind the Bruins’ bench taking video of Bruins players leaving the ice after warmups when inspiration apparently struck Marchand.
“Hey, what’s up? This is BM63,” Marchand says after snagging the phone. “Just walking off from warmups. I don’t know whose phone this is, but I hope you have a lot of fun tonight, because I know I’m going to. Anyways, gotta go. See ya.”
The phone was obviously returned to the fan, now with a video saved to it that they won’t be deleting any time soon.
