The Panthers had their best season ever in 2021-22. They secured the Presidents' Trophy for most points, set the NHL record for goals scored in a season, and set another record for most comeback wins when trailing three or more goals. They played fast, they played hard, and they were never out of a game. Three times this season they came back from four-goal, third period deficits. The 83-84 Oilers are the only other team to do it twice. They played some of their worst hockey against Washington in the first round of this year's playoffs & won in 6 games. So how were the Tampa Bay Lightning able to sweep the Presidents' Trophy, record-setting Cardiac Cats?

So when someone fails to deliver in this area, the dogpiling commences.

During the third period of Tuesday's Game 4 between the New York Rangers and Carolina Hurricanes, Mika Zibanejad found himself without a stick. He hustled back to the bench, where the equipment guys were preoccupied with fixing Alexis Lafreniere's helmet from a wrestling match with Andrei Svechnikov. None of his teammates on the bench seemed to notice he was in need of a new twig, so Zibanejad just helped himself.

Sean Durzi had a great year in the NHL in 2021-22. The now 23-year-old not only played his first regular season NHL game, he also spent the entire season with the Kings, playing in 61 games in total. Durzi proved himself to be a great depth guy who likes to be in the middle of the action. Unfortunately, his first full season in the NHL also took a toll on his body.

The Calgary Flames' dominance during the regular season combined with the championship acumen of their roster---Blake Coleman, Milan Lucic, Trevor Lewis, Tyler Toffoli, & Darryl Sutter---made for a serious contender for the Stanley Cup. ESPN released a trailer today & it gave me chills. It featured every key figure from the infamous series one could want out of a documentary of the bloodbath 1997 series. Lemieux, McCarty, Draper, Roy, you name him he's in it.

Entering Thursday's Game 5 in Raleigh, the Carolina Hurricanes were undefeated at home. On the flip side, they remain winless on the road. Carrying all of the momentum into a possible swing game in the series, the Rangers looked to change that narrative and head back home with a series lead.

Consequences have come about after nasty, racist messages were sent to Nazem Kadri of the Colorado Avalanche. During game three of the Avs' second round series against the St. Louis Blues, Kadri was involved in a collision with Blues goaltender Jordan Binnington that knocked the netminder out of the game and, as it was revealed later, the remainder of the series. The next day, Kadri's wife posted screenshots of several messages he had received that contained racism and violence. None of the names of the people who had sent the messages were covered in the screen shots that started being shared on social media. Now, one of the people who sent Kadri a message is paying the price.

Brock Boeser's family made public yesterday that his father, Duke, was 'skating his final lap.' He suffered from Dementia for some time after suffering a pulmonary embolism in 2020, a battle Brock has dealt with publicly for the past couple of years. Very bad news for the Washington Capitals and their fans. The team has announced Tom Wilson, a major part of the Caps, will miss a good portion of the 2022-23 season. "Caps forward Tom Wilson, who was injured on May 3 in Game 1 against Florida, underwent a successful surgical procedure on his left knee to reconstruct his torn ACL. Based on the nature of this procedure, Wilson is expected to miss 6-8 months." - Capitals PR.

The Florida Panthers have some questions that need to be answered over the summer after a disappointing sweep by the Tampa Bay Lightning in the second round of the 2022 Stanley Cup Playoffs. According to one report, the team was attempting to make a big change while the season was going on.
