CALGARY NEWS ANCHOR WITH A GREAT QUOTE ON FACING CONNOR MCDAVID IN THESE PLAYOFFS (W/VIDEO)
The disappointment in Calgary will sting for a while. For the first time in over three decades, NHL fans were treated to a playoff series featuring a Battle of Alberta. While the Flames did finish ahead of Edmonton in the regular season, the two teams were pretty close and this should have been a grueling battle. Instead, the Oilers pulled off a victory in five games, led by the man most consider to be the best player in the world right now, and perhaps one of the greatest ever before he finishes.

HOW WERE THE LIGHTNING ABLE TO SWEEP THE PRESIDENTS' TROPHY WINNING PANTHERS?
The Panthers had their best season ever in 2021-22. They secured the Presidents' Trophy for most points, set the NHL record for goals scored in a season, and set another record for most comeback wins when trailing three or more goals. They played fast, they played hard, and they were never out of a game. Three times this season they came back from four-goal, third period deficits. The 83-84 Oilers are the only other team to do it twice. They played some of their worst hockey against Washington in the first round of this year's playoffs & won in 6 games. So how were the Tampa Bay Lightning able to sweep the Presidents' Trophy, record-setting Cardiac Cats?

NIKITA ZADOROV REPORTEDLY PLAYED THROUGH MAJOR INJURY
No secret hockey players are tough. Just yesterday we learned Chris Tanev played through a separated shoulder, torn labrum, & a sprained neck. At that point, it might be best practice to simply shut a guy down, but Tanev is his own man so not for me to determine that. Today we also learned that his teammate, Nikita Zadorov, also fought through major injury.

DYLAN LARKIN SWITCHES AGENTS AND HIS OLD ONE ISN'T TOO HAPPY
It's a sure sign that Dylan Larkin of the Detroit Red Wings is looking for a big payday. With one season left to go on his current deal, Larkin has made the sudden decision to change agents, going with heavyweight CCA Sports and representative Pat Brisson (along with Matt Williams). Brisson's active contracts in the NHL currently represent over $1.1 billion in money. It's not necessarily a surprise that Larkin would switch to this agency, but his former one says it was 'blindsided' by the decision.

DARREN HELM'S BUZZER BEATER SERIES CLINCHER COMES ON AN ANNIVERSARY OF SORTS
Darren Helm scored the series clinching goal over the St. Louis Blues last night in a truly shocking event. Nearly everyone thought the game was destined for overtime after back & forth, tightly contested action. The Blues' resilience was on full display, being outshot 39-20 at last count. Ville Husso looked appeared in regular season form, and some of us even thought we might get a Game 7. Alas, Darren Helm had other plans.
