Shenmue: The Animation New Trailer Released, Premieres on Adult Swim This February 5

Shenmue: The Animation

The anime adaptation of Ryo Hazuki’s story and his quest to avenge his father’s death finally gets a release date. Shenmue: The Animation has a new trailer, as well as a set premier date of February 5!

Here’s the beautifully animated teaser of the anime series that adapts the events of the first two games.

First released in Japan for the Sega Dreamcast in 1999, Shenmue is an action-adventure game created and directed by legendary video game designer Yu Suzuki. Originally conceived as a Virtua Fighter RPG title, the game instead spun-off into its own title and is set in the late 1980’s — chronicling the story of a young teenage martial artist named Ryo Hazuki. Witnessing his father’s murder at the hands of a mysterious Triad enforcer named Lan Di, Ryo embarks on a quest to avenge his dad and find out why he was killed. The first game covers the first chapter of the story and is set in Ryo’s hometown of Yokosuka, Japan. Shenmue 2 and 3 sees Ryo travelling to Hong Kong and China to continue his quest and discover more about his destiny.

The first Shenmue: The Animation teaser was released in New York Comic Con a few months back. The series will consist of 13 episodes, and will start airing on Adult Swim’s Toonami block this February 5.
