Rep. Jim Jordan already knows what he will do if he becomes chairman of the House Judiciary Committee next year with subpoena power and the ability to set the agenda for the panel.
The Ohio Republican, who as the ranking member of the committee is lined up to take over as chairman, talked about the investigations he plans to lead if his party wins control of the House in the 2022 midterm elections during an interview Thursday with Lisa Boothe on her podcast The Truth with Lisa Boothe. On the docket? Jordan listed inquiries into the Justice Department, the southern border, and Dr. Anthony Fauci.
When it comes to the Justice Department, Jordan said he wants to look into “what they’re doing to parents,” referring to controversy over a letter comparing parent protests to domestic terrorism, which spurred Attorney General Merrick Garland to direct the FBI and other Justice Department arms to help police allege threats against school board members.
Jordan said his second priority is getting accountability for the “chaos” at the U.S.-Mexico border and talked about how Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas has not been brought before the judiciary panel despite it having primary jurisdiction over immigration law. “Jerry Nadler will never bring him in,” Jordan said, referring to the current Democratic chairman.

As for Fauci, Jordan said he’d like to work with Sens. Rand Paul and Ron Johnson to examine the origins of the coronavirus pandemic and concerns about gain-of-function research at a lab in Wuhan, China.
“There are six or seven things that they misled, and there’s a bunch of other things they misled us on,” Jordan said on the podcast. “So we need … oversight and the truth to get to the American people on that issue as well.”

Jordan said Monday that he would “definitely” investigate Fauci should he be elected House Judiciary Committee chairman “because we now know without a doubt that Dr. Fauci knew on Jan. 31 and Feb. 1 [2020] that this thing came from a lab.”
The congressman also raised questions about Hunter Biden, the adult son of President Joe Biden, whose foreign business dealings have been a cause for concern among Republicans. He said a subject of interest is the “collusion between Big Media and Big Tech” that led to the suppression of reporting on a laptop believed to belong to Hunter Biden “in the weeks right prior to the election.”
