BOSTON — Brad Marchand suffered an upper-body injury in the second period and will miss the third period of the Bruins’ Thursday game with the Washington Capitals.
Marchand appeared to be in pain when he left the ice after being hit from behind by Garnet Hathaway, who was given a two-minute interference penalty for the play.
Marchand yelled at both the officials and the Capitals bench as he came off the ice. He briefly had ice on his right shoulder and tried to play through the injury. But the Bruins announced Marchand wouldn’t return during the second intermission.
Boston is down two left wings after Anton Blidh left the game earlier after a Tom Wilson hit. Jake DeBrusk started the third period on the top line with Patrice Bergeron and Craig Smith.
Marchand leads the Bruins in goals (20), assists (23) and penalty minutes (51).
