The remarks, which were related to Cowboys fans throwing trash at the game's referees, came in response to the game's final drive, in which the Cowboys were unable to spike the ball and stop the clock after a miscommunication with the officials.

Prescott did take to Twitter to apologize for his comments, but the damage was already done.

“I deeply regret the comments I made regarding the officials after the game on Sunday,” he wrote. “I was caught up in the emotion of a disappointing loss and my words were unfair and uncalled for. I hold the NFL Officials in the higest regard and have always respected their professionalism and the difficulty of their jobs.

The officiating crew was under harsh scrutiny for some calls throughout the game, including the final play.

As the officials ran off the field, fans were captured on video throwing water bottles and debris in their direction.

Cowboys executive Stephen Jones condemned the actions of those fans on 105.3 The Fan on Monday.

There has not been any comment from the NFL Referees Association.
