You heard Craig Carton confirm it at the beginning of WFAN’s Carton & Roberts Show on Thursday: the Giants have apparently reached out to Brian Flores about interviewing for their open head coaching gig.

Ralph Vacchiano of SNY termed it as a source saying that the 42-year-old former Dolphins coach “has been made aware of the Giants’ interest in him,” and “he expects to be offered an interview for their head coaching job once a new GM is hired.”

Per Vacchiano, Giants co-owner John Mara is high on Flores, and Flores is a top candidate in the minds of all three of the Giants’ known GM finalists; one, Bills assistant GM Joe Schoen, has already reached out per the New York Post.

San Francisco 49ers assistant GM Adam Peters is also close with Flores, and it’s reported that Kansas City Chiefs executive director of player personnel Ryan Poles also likes him. Flores has already interviewed with the Texans and Bears, and per Vacchiano, is interested in the Giants but “won’t necessarily wait for them if an offer comes from somebody else first.”

The Giants are expected to name a general manager sometime soon, perhaps as early as Friday or Saturday, and then move on to the search for a head coach.

Flores was let go by Miami on Jan. 10, reportedly amidst a power struggle with Dolphins GM Chris Grier, despite leading the Fish to two straight winning seasons, including a 9-8 record this season.

If he’s the guy, Flores would be the Giants’ second straight hire off the Bill Belichick tree, as he started his career as a scouting assistant with the Patriots in 2004 and spent four years in the scouting department and 11 as a field assistant before being hired as Dolphins head coach.

The Giants have also reached out to the Cowboys for permission to interview defensive coordinator Dan Quinn, who previously worked in New York as the Jets’ defensive line coach in 2007-08 and was 43-42 in five-plus seasons as head coach of the Falcons from 2015-20.
