Ellen DeGeneres Just Received The Most Devastating News–What Does It Mean For Her Career?

First the Ellen show came to an end, and now this?

After four seasons, NBC just cancelled the Ellen DeGeneres-hosted game show, Ellen’s Game of Games, as first reported by Deadline. The show, which premiered in 2017, usually sees DeGeneres and sidekick host Stephen “tWitch” Boss guide contestants through twelve mini games for a chance to win a $100,000 cash prize.

A lot of former DeGeneres fans don’t know how to feel since July of 2020, when the comedian was the center of controversy after her Ellen show coworkers and crew published reports that accused her of creating a toxic work environment.

After Buzzfeed shared stories from the show’s then-current and former employees, DeGeneres apologized on-air in September of that year. In May of 2021, she announced that the show’s 19th season would be its last— but she maintained that the controversy was “not the reason” she was ending the show.

While DeGeneres used to be known as a major ruler in the world of daytime TV, her reign (and comedy career) seems to have come to a harsh stop. Her self-titled talk show will officially air its final episode this spring after 18 years and countless celebrity guests.
