Acura recently announced that the production of the NSX Type S is now underway. The Japanese automaker is producing this special model as a last stand to the fabled supercar. The NSX Type S will be built at the brand’s Performance Manufacturing Center (PMC) in Marysville, Ohio, in a limited run of only 350 units.

All 350 Acura NSX Type S units are reserved

If you’re looking to get your hands on one of these one-off NSXs, then you have already missed the boat. According to Acura, all 350 units were quickly reserved back in August and the PMC will finish producing the supercar this year. The first two NSX Type S models that were built were painted in an exclusive Gotham Gray matte finish that required the cars to be handled and shipped in a special way when leaving the factory. A special protective film and body cover were applied to protect the paint and care instructions were passed along to the new owners.

Fortunately, for the other lucky NSX Type S owners, the last-edition model is also available in seven other colors that are cheaper and don’t require as much attention to detail. Regardless, you can bet that every single NSX Type S that leaves the PMC will have the best build quality possible.

“Today is an exciting day for PMC and Acura as we begin shipping the highly-desired NSX Type S supercar,” said PMC Division Lead Gail May. “Every associate here is committed to ensuring that each Type S we build, from VIN#001 all the way up to VIN#350, will be as perfect as the first second-generation NSX this team built in 2016.”

The NSX Type S boasts some other great performance and aesthetic upgrades

This exclusive NSX is much more than just the Type S badge that it wears. In order to set it apart from the regular model, Acura updated its exterior look with a new front and rear fascia that has some aggressive carbon fiber bits. Those new bumpers are complimented well by the black five-spoke wheels that are wrapped in super-sticky Pirelli P-Zero tires and a carbon-fiber roof. Additionally, Acura also added an Adaptive Damper system for better handling characteristics and an available carbon-fiber engine cover for some added flair.

Underneath that cover is a twin-turbocharged V6 engine that’s mated to a trio of electric motors to produce a total of 600 hp and 492 lb-ft of torque. That’s 27 more horsepower and 16 lb-ft more than the regular model, making the Type S the most powerful NSX ever produced.

Unfortunately, a manual transmission isn’t part of the last hoorah, though. Instead, that powerful powertrain is paired to a nine-speed DCT transmission that transmits the power to all four wheels via the brand’s Super-Handling All-Wheel-Drive system.

Can you still buy a regular NSX?

As far as we can tell, no. Acura only has the NSX Type S listed on its consumer site and since all of those have been sold, the only fun you’ll have with it is through the configurator. Otherwise, if you happen to have $150,000 burning a hole in your pocket, then you can always look at the used market and buy a 2017 Acura NSX. If you can’t have the last model of the last-generation NSX, then you might as well have the first one.
